Carrigbyrne Hill - 10 minute drive from Mill Farm

Walking on Carrigbyrne Hill (8Km from Mill Farm Cottage) is ideal and has some terrific views of the neighboring countryside. Being part of the Slí na Slainte network there are marked and measured routes with approximately 12.5km of trails.  There are three routes for walkers to choose from.  Walkers pass the a 1798 campsite along the way.

• The main tree species are mainly coniferous including Douglas fir, Japanese larch and native Scots pine. You will also find some oak, ash, beech, rowan and Spanish chestnut.
• Other plants include laurel, bramble and heather. Wildlife includes fox, rabbit, hare,blackbird and thrush.
• The site was once part of the Jeffare’s Estate.
• The oak wood is known as “Camp Field”. During the 1798 rebellion the insurgents gathered here before marching on New Ross.
• Notice board demonstrating the walks etc can be found at the picnic area.

From Mill Farm Cottages – take a right at the gate and go over the bridge into Foulksmills village, then follow the R736 for New Ross. At the N25 road - New Ross/Wexford, turn right (Wexford) continue onto Carrigbyrne picnic area which is situated on the left hand side of the road. Car parking and picnic benches available.

Edenvale River and Forest Walk

A short walk beside the river through woodland. There is a a beautiful waterfall which makes this walk very special for keen walkers and nature lovers. It is close to the village of Castlebridge where the Guinness book of records was founded in May 1951.

Enniscorthy Town Heritage Walk

Enniscorthy town was founded by St. Senan in 510. It is a situated on the banks of the River Slaney midway between the Blackstairs Mountains and the sea. The streets are tall with tall buildings on each side. Vinegar Hill, 1798 historic battle site, overlooks the town. The town’s heritage walk takes in the Duffry Gate, St Aidan’s Cathedral, the Market House/Market Square, the Athenaeum, St Mary’s Church, Enniscorthy Castle and County Museum, Enniscorthy Bridge and The Cotton Tree site, the railway station, Templeshannon, Vinegar Hill, Society of Friends, the fountain, Seamus Rafter Memorial, post office from 1903, Methodist and Presbyterian Church, the National 1798 Rebellion Centre, and the Maltings. The walkway by the River Slaney also has a children's playground at the entrance of the walk.

Enniscorthy Town Prom Walk along the River Slaney

A 6km walk starts close to the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy (children's playground nearby).  This walk starts on a concrete path for approx 500m which brings walkers to the point where the Urrin River joins the Slaney. A Country Walk can be accessed via a Footbridge (not suitable for wheelchair usesrs or prams/buggies). It is 2m in width and more suited to country walkers and hikers.

Forth Mountain 3 Rocks Trail - Barntown

There are a number of car parks and lay-bys in the forest, with numerous walks on the forest road network and paths. Fine views of the surrounding countryside can be had and on a clear day you can see counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wicklow and Waterford.

Kilbrannish Forest Recreation Area

Close to the summit of Mount Leinster, this area has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. There are two official trails of 3km and 5km but much longer walks are possible for those with more energy.

Raven Point Nature Reserve Walk

This is a very popular walk amongst locals and visitors alike. Walks run parallel to Curracloe beach and pass through a pine forest. The main forest track is perfect for the slow walker and provides lots of fun for smaller children too playing and hiding along the way. The walk continues around the loop or walkers can return by the beach, a super walk at any time of the year, summer time or winter time.

Further north is Curracloe Beach, which doubled as Omaha beach in the film ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

1798 Walk

The Battle of Horetown took place just 1.5km from the village of Foulkesmill and Mill Farm Cottages. This walk is signposted, walkers passing Horetown House on route where the cavalry camped out overnight waiting on the insurgents to attack. There is a mass graveyard at the Cross of Stoneen - marked along the route.

Wexford Town Heritage Walk

This walk around the historic town of Wexford takes in Selskar Abbey, John Wesley Methodist Chapel, St Iberius’ Church, Rowe Street Church, The Friary, Bride Street Church, Society of Friends Meeting House, St Patrick’s Church and Graveyard.
