Kite Surfing on Duncannon Beach, Golf - Superior 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses; Hill walking;  , a stroll up Carrigbyrne Hill, quadding in Clonroche, diving off Slade Harbour. Angling:

Only 10km from the coastline - visitors are within short distance to the shore:  Ballyhack & Kilmore Quay Fishing villages a 20 minute drive.

Castle Archers - a Wexford based company provide lessons for all levels in Archery; 

Shielbaggan Outdoor Education Centre - located near Hook Head Peninsula - provides a wonderful choice of sporting activities - will take large or small groups & only 18km from Mill Farm Cottages!


Bird Watching & Nature Reserves:

Ballyteige Burrow, a sandy beach area adjoining the village of Kilmore Quay, (Irish National Grid Reference S9603:) Home to Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Wrens and Stonechats mainly inhabit this area. The burrow is approx 9km in length and is known also for its sand dunes - a wonderful place to walk.

Saltee Islands (the Great Saltee and the Little Saltee) off Kilmore Quay are thought to be one of the biggest bird sanstuaries in the world.

Tacumshane Lake, Broadway, Co Wexford, is one of Ireland's best bird watching sites. The lake is protected under the wildlife act 1976.

Wexford Wildfowl Reserve provides a welcome retreat for its wintering flock of 10,000 Greenland Whitefronted Geese and wintering flocks of geese, swans and wigeon.

Breathtaking views and historic sites await cyclists exploring County Wexford. Many local beaches are within a 10km cycle of Mill Farm Cottages - Cullenstown, Blackhall and Bannow - a cycle, a swim in the ocean, a picnic on the beach and back to Mill Farm to relax in the evening - a super way to spend your days when on holiday.

Some cycling routes: (Departing Tourist Office Wexford Quay Front) are:

Route 1 Slaney Route (53km): Cyclists take the route to Enniscorthy via Castlebridge and return to Wexford via Ferrycarrig Bridge.

Route 2 Coastal Route (Approx 35km): Will take cyclists out to Wexford Wildfowl Reserve and Sloblands, taking in the beautiful and award winning village of Blackwater on the route back to Wexford.

Route 3 South Wexford Route (78km): Cyclists enjoy a trip to Rosslare Ferry Port via the village of Kilrane, cycle on towards Kilmore Quay, enjoy the lovely gardens at Johnstown Castle and Agricultural Museum on the return journey back to Wexford.

Guests can enjoy the Waterford Coastline too by cycling to Ballyhack fishing village from Mill Farm then take the car ferry across to Passage East (5 minutes from one side to the other) and the rugged Waterford coastline is there for exploration.  


Gaelic Games

Football, hurling and camogie play a huge part in the hobbies and interests for Irish people and the local people in Foulkesmills and County Wexford are no exception to this.  The local club Clongeen, Senior Football Champions in 2007, have won many underage and adult titles since the Club was formed in 1905.  There is also a very strong Ladies Club who equally have won their fair share of titles over the years.  With two first class pitches available to members for training and home games the club is very active.  A new walking track is in place where all the community feel welcome to exercise and enjoy the fun athmosphere in the park as well as meeting up with neighbours.

Golf: Wexford is a golfer's paradise with six championship courses. The golf courses listed are all 18 hole:

Wexford Golf Club The course at Wexford Golf Club has had a dramatic makeover in recent years. Course architect Jeff Howes has ensured that in the new Par 71 layout there is variety of length, aspect and difficulty, with the reshaped greens providing a test of your putting skills. Visitors to the new course are assured of a challenging and enjoyable round of golf. Rathaspeck Manor - an Executive Par 3 Golf Course

This 18 hole course is beautifully maintained, set amongst mature trees and meandering streams, and has panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

It comprises 15 par 3, and 3 par 4 holes which cater equally well for the beginner as well as the more accomplished golfer making it the ideal location for golfing in wexford.

Scarke Golf Course & Driving Range-

Scarke Golf course, located near New Ross on the N30 in beautiful countryside is an 18 Hole par 72 Golf Course, a 9 Hole par 3 course and a Driving Range.


Horse Riding

Shelmalier Riding Stables: Forth Mountain, Trinity, Taghmon, Wexford: Wexford's longest established Riding Centre is about 15km from Mill Farm Cottages and 7km from Wexford town. The staff are enthusiastic, highly skilled, qualified people. Riders of all levels are welcome and each individual allowed to progress at their own rate in a relaxed friendly environment.

Shelmalier stables offer scenic woodland rides through 3000 acres of forest, daytime, evening and weekend lessons, non residential camps for children and exam training. They are open all year round by appointment. Booking is essential. The minimum age for children is 5 years.

Wexford Races - Location Wexford Town

Wexford Racecourse is the South East of Ireland's leading race course. Wexford Racecourse assures you of a brilliant day out for all the family. Public Libraries:

There are five branches of County Wexford library located in the towns of Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Gorey, New Ross and the most recently built in Wexford Town.  Free wi-fi access is available to visitors, just bring along your device, iPad, laptop etc. Public opening hours are:  Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 10:30a.m. to 5:30p.m.; Tuesday and Thursdays open from: 10:30a.m. - 09:00p.m. Wexford is also open on Saturdays 10:30a.m. - 5.30p.m. (except Saturdays Bank Holiday weekends).


MAZES

Dunbrody Castle: Next to Dunbrody Abbey (founded 1170 by Herve de Montmorency following direction from Strongbow). This maze made from yew trees is said to be one of only two full size mazes in Ireland. Following the wonderful adventure through the maze can have a well deserved treat in the tea rooms.


There are many open farms and a selection of which are listed:

Ballycross Apple Farm: Is a perfect place to spend an afternoon with family and friends. Located in Bridgetown County Wexford (on the road to Kilmore). The farm provides an array of activities and entertainment for visitors.

Blackwater Open Farm and Carrigbyrne Mini Farm (very short drive from the cottages) provide visitors with the opportunity of feeding the animals, trails, petting area and playround areas

Kia Ora Mini Farm - about a mile from Gorey - hour's drive from Mill Farm Cottages

Secret Valley Adventure Farm Open May until early September - Daily 10am - 6pm Open weekends out of season; Check web link for further details re opening times: A trip to the farm will provide guests with a real adventure.

Shrule Pet Farm - a commercial pet farm also has regular farm animals in particular emphasis on poultry. Located near Gorey, Co Wexford.


Orienteering: Sheilbaggan Outdoor education Centre - 18Km from Mill Farm Cottages - towards Hook Peninsula 


Quad Attack, Clonroche, provide:  Quads and quad biking as wall as sumo wrestling, bungee run, rodeo bull and bounding castle.


Swimming Pools 

APEX SWIMMING POOL in New Ross Town - 15 minute drive - complete with kiddies pool, adult pool, indoor slide, sauna and chacuzzi

Wexford town and Enniscorthy town boast two beautiful new swimming pools only opened in the last few years.  Whilst in New Ross a stunning new €7 million pool was opened for the first time in October 2013. Both Wexford and New Ross will have well equipped gymnasiums, Wexford has a kiddies pool and an adult pool as well as sauna and steam room; There is a great little playground on the grounds of Wexford Swimming Pool providing additional entertainment when the children are finished in the swimming pool.
