Carrigbyrne Hill - 10 minute drive from Mill Farm

Walking on Carrigbyrne Hill (8Km from Mill Farm Cottage) is ideal and has some terrific views of the neighboring countryside. Being part of the Slí na Slainte network there are marked and measured routes with approximately 12.5km of trails.  There are three routes for walkers to choose from.  Walkers pass the a 1798 campsite along the way.

 

 

• The main tree species are mainly coniferous including Douglas fir, Japanese larch and native Scots pine. You will also find some oak, ash, beech, rowan and Spanish chestnut.
• Other plants include laurel, bramble and heather. Wildlife includes fox, rabbit, hare,blackbird and thrush.
• The site was once part of the Jeffare’s Estate.
• The oak wood is known as “Camp Field”. During the 1798 rebellion the insurgents gathered here before marching on New Ross.
• Notice board demonstrating the walks etc can be found at the picnic area.

From Mill Farm Cottages – take a right at the gate and go over the bridge into Foulksmills village, then follow the R736 for New Ross. At the N25 road - New Ross/Wexford, turn right (Wexford) continue onto Carrigbyrne picnic area which is situated on the left hand side of the road. Car parking and picnic benches available.
